Some Jane Austen adaptations are among my favorite films of all time. Others? Did not finish. Since nothing is better than the original word, here are the ones just as good for classic book lovers.
The only ones I've seen are Clueless and Bridget Jones, neither of which was a favorite, although I did enjoy them. Good for a one-time view at least.
My son and I were discussing our JA reads so far. He's read all of them, and Emma was his favorite. I've read Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion and wasn't fond of either, but this weekend took the time to read Northanger Abbey and finally found one I enjoyed. With that success I'll likely follow his suggestion and read Emma next.
As to the films - I don't watch that many movies anymore, but I appreciate having the list. You never know when one might catch my fancy.
How lovely! I love that you and your son did this together and I love that you found joy in NA which I agree is so joyful and underrated. Emma was boring to me, but I know many Austenites think itβs her best work I think if I were to read it again, I would listen to a great audiobook while I read a physical book to keep me more engaged and understanding the text.
I think the 2007 Northanger Abbey is great! I also really like the Romola Garai version of Emma. I think the 1995 Sense and Sensibility is better but I do love the Dan Stevenβs version.
I enjoyed reading your post, thank you for sharing. I love the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, and I completely agree that the soundtrack is magical. I do have to disagree with you about Gwyneth Paltrowβs Emma, though. That's my favorite adaptation, with the Anya Taylor-Joy version as a close second!

I need to look that one up

Maybe I should give it another chance!!
